Duradanda

Duradanda, a picturesque village in Lamjung, Nepal, is famous for its natural beauty, cultural richness, and strong community bonds. Nestled at 1,700 meters above sea level, it offers stunning views of the majestic Annapurna region. The village gets its name from the indigenous Dura people, who have significantly shaped its history. Duradanda has a history of social change and educational initiatives. Two notable movements, the 'Halo Kranti' (Plough Revolution) and the 'Siksha Kranti' (Educational Movement), originated here. The Sarvodaya High School, now known as Sarbodaya Higher Secondary School and Sarbodaya Campus, was one of Central Nepal's oldest schools.

Its lush forests and diverse wildlife attract nature enthusiasts. Education is highly valued, with ongoing efforts to improve educational facilities. Cooperation and respect for elders are fundamental in Duradanda's society, while agriculture and livestock farming are the primary livelihoods. However, out-migration has led to increasing areas of unused farmland. The village is easily accessible by road from major cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara, Narayangadh, and Besishahar, making it an inviting destination for those seeking an authentic Nepalese experience.
